SEOUL, Korea – October 30, 2025 – Samsung Electronics Co.,
Ltd. today announced the expansion of two new languages for Galaxy AI: Filipino
and Gujarati. Filipino is used daily by an estimated 87 million people, while
Gujarati is spoken by an estimated 62.5 million people[1].
What is Samsung Galaxy AI
Samsung Galaxy AI is a suite of artificial intelligence
features integrated into Samsung Galaxy devices. According to the South Korean
electronics maker, these features are designed to make everyday tasks more
intuitive, efficient, and personalised. For example, its tools like live
translation and chat assistance improve communications; note summarisation and
web browsing improve productivity; and capabilities like AI-powered photo and
audio editing adds a new dimension to multimedia editing boosting creativity.
The features use a combination of on-device and cloud-based processing.
Samsung Galaxy AI: What’s new
Samsung said the Gujarati and Filipino languages were
developed in close collaboration with Samsung Research centres in India and
Indonesia. The focus was to make translations sound more natural and reflect
local usage. Samsung said that the Galaxy AI now reaches more regions, offering
features that make communication and productivity simpler and more intuitive in
daily life. These include:
AI features available in new languages
The latest update enables users in more
regions to use Galaxy AI’s communication and productivity features in their
preferred language.
•Live Translate offers real-time, two-way
voice and text translation, allowing conversations to flow naturally across
different languages.
•Interpreter provides instant translations of
in-person conversations in a split-screen view, useful for travel and everyday
interactions.
•Chat Assist adjusts message tone and phrasing
to suit different contexts, including professional, casual, or friendly
conversations.
•Note Assist generates summaries and
pre-formatted templates, helping users stay organized and manage daily tasks
efficiently.
•Transcript Assist transcribes, summarizes,
and translates voice recordings from meetings, lectures, or creative sessions.
•Browsing Assist condenses news articles and
web pages into short summaries for quick reading.
What’s changing
From October 29, users of compatible Galaxy
devices can download the new language packs via the Settings menu. With these
languages added, Galaxy AI’s suite of features—Live Translate (real-time
voice/text translation during calls), Interpreter (face-to-face split-screen
translation), Chat Assist, Note Assist, Transcript Assist and Browsing
Assist—now reach more speakers around the world.
Bridging Language Barriers
With the addition of Gujarati and Filipino,
Galaxy AI expands its global voice to help native speakers access advanced AI
features such as Live Translate, Interpreter, Chat Assist, Note Assist,
Transcript Assist, and Browsing Assist. The language expansion aligns with
Samsung’s vision of making mobile AI more inclusive and empowering users
irrespective of their primary language.
Regional Relevance and Collaboration
Samsung developed the Gujarati and Filipino
models in partnership with its research centres in India and Indonesia
respectively. This collaboration ensured that the language packs reflect
natural usage, idioms, and regional nuances—not just literal translations.
According to Samsung, Gujarati has over 60 million speakers, while Filipino
(Tagalog) is used daily by approximately 87 million people—highlighting the
impact of this upgrade in populous regions.
